Causes of foundation settling

Different types of soils are more or less suited to bear the weight of a heavy foundation based on how much water they absorb or lose, as this determines how much the soil will move. Unfortunately, soils in Louisiana are known for being difficult. You may notice signs of your Baton Rouge home's foundation settling, including wall and floor cracks, bowing walls, uneven floors, sticking windows and doors, and tiling chimneys.

When you call in a BCG Services foundation repair professional, we'll conduct a thorough inspection of your property to determine the extent of the issue and the best solution. Different products might apply to your situation. For example, wall anchors or braces can stabilize bowing walls, while helical or push piers might be applicable for your foundation underneath. We are an exclusive local installer of Foundation Supportworks products, trusted in thousands of homes across the country for foundation repair projects.

Concrete lifting and leveling using the PolyLevel method

If your foundation isn't the cause of the issue on your property, you may be suffering from concrete slab settlement. Because concrete is used in various places throughout your property - it could be part of a garage, an interior floor, a driveway or a pool deck – there are many potential symptoms, which include:

  • Cracked driveways
  • Uneven patios
  • Sinking sidewalks
  • Uneven concrete
  • Sunken pool decks

Fortunately, BCG Services has a proven solution that can remedy all of these issues – PolyLevel! PolyLevel uses a lightweight polyurethane foam that expands after it is injected into the ground. When placed beneath concrete, this foam is strong enough to raise the slab back to its original position, ensuring smooth, level concrete for your driveway, sidewalk and more. PolyLevel is environmentally friendly, can be adapted to work better in different types of soils, and best of all, the applicable area is ready for normal use in just 15 minutes!

Whether you're having trouble with your foundation or concrete slabs, BCG Services is ready to provide the answer you need for an efficient, effective solution. As a local, family owned company, we always put our customers and their safety first. St. Rose Avenue in Baton Rouge
Our pier and beam house collects water during rain events. The area under the house is lower than the surrounding yard which is largely lower than the street. We have been told there are no stormwater drainage pipes on our side of the road to connect to. We also know that a previous owner had 3 concrete slabs in the backyard and covered them with dirt which we suspect impacts drainage around the property. We have not noticed minor floor buckling and perhaps settling. We want to take care of this before it becomes a bigger issue. Landscape architects have suggested a sump pump, but we worry that will drain right back into the yard. We are considering raising the underside of the house but want to ensure adequate clearance for access. Would appreciate information on your experience dealing with this type of challenge and types of solutions.
